Abstract

The construction of a Model policy on intellectual property in Nigeria has become urgent due to the need for reform and advocacy for improvements in developing, protecting and enforcing intellectual property rights (IPRs) in Nigeria. This paper proposes a bottom up approach in adopting the appropriate Model policy. This approach prioritizes the needs of the people regarding intellectual properties based on western and traditional knowledge systems in Nigeria. The integration of intellectual property into the economic development plans of Nigeria through policies will indeed assist in reducing poverty, helping to combat diseases, improving health, enhancing access to education and contributing to sustainable development
