Abstract

Motivation is an indispensable factor in the teaching/learning process. No wonder then that many theories of motivation have been proffered' to help the teacher make adequate use of this all important tool The place of motivation in the teaching and learning of music in the primary school cannot be overemphasized- This paper therefore highlights the motivational strategies employed in teaching music in the primary schools. The implications of these strategies to the music teacher are explored. The problems that militate against the teaching and learning of music are discussed and possible solutions to the problems are suggested.
