Role of private Universities in ensuring graduate employability in Nigeria

Abstract

although graduate unemployment is a global reality, the situation is more severe in developing countries like Nigeria. unemployment as been indicated as a major cause of crime in Nigeria. Graduate unemployment has been attributed to a number of factors inclusing employability, which is a major factor in job acquisition and retention. This paper explores the concept of employability and highlights those graduate attributes and skills that can enhance employability. The paper posits that graduate who are information literate, critical thinkers and skilled users of ICTs are likely to be more employable than those who are not. The paper therefore recommends that private Universities should integrate information literacy into their curriculum; they should adopt learner-centered method of teaching, and apply information and communication technology in teaching and learning in order to increase the employability of their graduates
