Abstract

This field-based report was part of a nationwide study of Nigeria’s 2011 elections. The 2011 elections were important to Nigerians in light of the experience at the 2007 elections which some described as assuming the character of warfare rather than a civil political contest. Therefore, this study on the 2011 general elections in Ogun State in south-western Nigeria was aimed at investigating the extent to which the elections conformed to international best practices, as well as the role played by various state, non-state, political, social, cultural and other groups in the election process.
