Abstract
This study was conducted to examine the different types of soil media on the germination of Jatropha curcas. The collected seeds were planted with three (3) soil media treatments such as; Top soil only (T1), River sand only (T2) and Top soil +River sand (T3) ). Experiment was replicated three (3) times with thirty (30) replicates in each treatment making (90) replicates all together. It was indicated that Top had the highest percentage of (86.7%), followed by Top soil and river sand (57.8%) and the least percentage was observed in river soil (22.2%). The data collected were subjected to statistical analysis using Complete Randomized Design (CRD).The result showed that there were no statistical different among the soil media used for the germination of Jatropha curcas. Top soil (86.7%) is the best soil media suitable for the germination of Jatropha curcas based on their germination percentages at 5% probability level, we do not have sufficient evident not to accept null hypothesis.
