Abstract

There is a growing need for raising the level of competence of college students in English. The problem of deficiency in the language that we have to deal with now has been caused by improper preparation and development of the students either by themselves or by their teachers. Our belief is that only good foundation and sound background knowledge of English at the elementary and high school levels can sustain whatever learning or teaching that is done at the higher level. The grammar of a language is the basis of such language. Hence, the focus on grammar and grammatical elements. The text has been carefully designed to help rectify deficiencies in English grammar and build up a higher degree of competence in the use of English in those who care to study it meticulously. It is useful for students in Senior Secondary School, Polytechnics, Colleges of Education and Universities. It can also serve as a companion for thosewho are keen on learning to master the grammar of English. Each chapter is followed by some exercises that have been carefully designed to help the readers put to practice the knowledge gained in each chapter. It is expected that the text will be used for the purpose of acquiring and advancing knowledge in English grammar.
