Abstract
This paper explores the role of adult education in poverty alleviation. It does this, by offering a typology of adult education strategies to poverty alleviation that contribute to enhancing the capability of the poor, to produce and earn better and contribute to the overall economic growth of the country. The aim of adult education is to improve the living conditions of Nigerian adults, but considering the high rate of corruption, poor funding, and low-enrolment, plaguing the implementation, it will be difficult to record progress towards meeting the Millennium Development Goals (MGDs) target by 2015. The implication of this is that adult education has to be given special consideration in the planning and the execution of poverty alleviation programmes .In other words, poverty alleviation can only be real if adult elevation programmes are seriously taken care of and effectively implemented by the government.
