Abstract

Evolutionary trend in Technology has changed the human environment and therefore affected the way we interact with each passing technological generation-broadening the digital divide; a usersâ€˜ prior experience with media devices may conflict with new cognitive models associated with handheld devices, e.g., cell phone, Gameboy, PDA, and so on. Human Computer Interaction and Design (HCI/HCID) places emphases that all such devices should be consistent, with a repertoire of gestures that feel natural and communicate their states and capabilities to the user as intuitively as possible while minimizing all cognitive friction. HCI as emerging field draws on successes from multidisciplinary areas of science, engineering, and art such as psychology, computer science, and anthropology. With Simplicity and usability being the main principles around which the paper is structured, the intention of this paper is to provide an overview on the subject of Human-Computer Interaction and challenges facing the field of Human Computer Interaction Design.
