Abstract
Education for the female folk in general was seen as a waste in the past in Africa. In Nigeria particularly, the girl child is seen as one who would end up in the kitchen. Consequently, little or no attention is paid to her education generally. One of the fall-outs from this is in poor enrollment in school, especially in STEM. This paper reviewed the enrollment status of the female folk in STEM in Nigerian schools. The study also considered the dearth of the female folk in STEM careers. The work reports on the causative factors for the noticed trend and recommending appropriate measures to mitigate the observed gender gap.
