Abstract
In spite of the rapid growth generated by Nigeria’s oil wealth recent year, the majority of the population, especially those in the rural areas, have benefited little from this, if at all. Severe poverty persists and is evident in the difficulty experienced by many in satisfying their basic needs. Grassroots movement are responsive initiatives that have provided rural people with bottom-up approach management and planning opportunities focused on quality of life issues for themselves, their families, the community, and ultimately the nation. The paper highlights the problem- solving methods used by the numerous and diverse local organizations in Nigeria’s rural areas to effectively participate in community’ development programmes to better their living conditions.
