Abstract
Nigeria has been an independent nation for almost 50years with policies on development of rural communities, but rural areas are still not developed and the quality of life of the people in the rural areas continues to deteriorate throughout all tiers of government. Current estimate put the rural population at over 80% of the entire population of almost 140million people and as such, any improvement in their quality of living, means a significant improvement in the quality of life of the entire nation. The neglect has led to the drift of rural dwellers to urban areas, which in turn has made rural areas qualitatively and quantitatively depopulated, and progressively less attractive for socio-economic investment. The paper appraises the quality of life currently existing in rural communities in Nigeria.
