Abstract
This paper examined the interface and connections between discourse analysis and literary analysis through the application of discourse elements to both written and spoken texts. This is in terms of the application of cooperative principles, derived maxims, speech acts, conversational analysis and other discourse features. In this study, it was discovered that discourse analysis allows for the analysis of text by taking isolated utterances and sentences, and studying their interrelationships and their use in specific situations. This engenders the true meaning to the reader and the exposition of the author's intentions.
