Abstract
ABSTRACT This study assessed the job information seeking behaviour of Nigerian graduates. The respondents were 184 National Youth Service Corp members serving in Ikenne Local Government Area of Ogun State as the respondents for this study. A self-designed, structured questionnaire was used to collect data on the job information needs the corp members, the sources of job information and the problems they encounter while seeking job information from various sources. The data was analyzed with descriptive statistics. The findings showed that the respondents have a number of job information needs including information about job vacancies, resume preparation and how to prepare for job interview. The most consulted sources of job information were relatives/ friends, internet sources, newspaper and radio. Institutional sources such as professional associations, and the library are not popular sources of job information among the respondents. The greatest challenge facing the corp members is finding accurate and reliable job information. Therefore, the study suggests ways by which university libraries, alumni associations and professionals can serve as information intermediaries between the graduates and the labour market.
