Abstract

This chapter focuses on the components and types of sentences. In English, the major components and varieties of the sentence are considered structurally and functionally. Thus, this chapter aims at helping students and writers generally, to improve on their use of sentences for effective writing. It is expected that with a sound knowledge of the possible types of sentences in English, students will be able to avoid run-ons and fragments, which are usually transferred from the colloquial nature of the spoken language to the written form. They will also be able to effectively express themselves in the English as clearly and interestingly as possible.
