Abstract

/I recursive bisection method for the solution of banded matrix systems of linear equations which occur frequently in the finite difference/dement discretisations of boundary value problems is derived. We analyse the proposed met hod in detail for tridiagonal systems but the algorithm can be readily extended in block form to mat nee, of bandwidth (2" + I).
