Abstract

The youth of this generation are the future. Education is of utmost importance in ensuring a great and prosperous future. Islam is a religion which develops a comprehensive understanding about an individualsâ€™ life; morals, attitudes, philosophies, and values. Therefore education is an intrinsic part of the Islamic religion which helps to shape an individual into a complete human being and leader. The holy Qurâ€™an states â€œ read in the name of your lord who created. He created man from a clot. Read and your lord is most honorable, who taught (to write) with the pen. Taught man, that, he knew notâ€ (Qurâ€™an 96: 1 â€“ 5) However, the Nigerian experience concerning the perception of Islam about western education is quite confusing and calls for utmost attention and clarity. The peddlers of the campaign against western education have painted a picture that western education is a â€˜sinâ€™ and must be stopped by all means necessary. This research adopted a descriptive approach of the various elements investigated. The future rests on the continuous efforts to sensitize individuals on the importance of their willpower to use Western Education as a tool to bless and liberate the world around us.
