Abstract
Job satisfaction, one of the most important and frequently studied attitudes in the field of
organizational behavior, has significant impact on the overall health of organizations. One reason for the interest in job satisfaction is that whether or not employees are satisfied with their jobs has consequences not just for the employees but also for co-workers, managers, and the organization as a whole. For organizations to be effective and efficient, the majority of the workforce needs to be satisfied with their jobs. This study, therefore, investigates the factors that influence job satisfaction and how the consequences or outcomes of job satisfaction impact the effectiveness and efficiency of organizations. It was discovered that the factors that influence job satisfaction include work itself, pay, working condition, supervision, promotion and co-workers. It was also observed that the
outcomes of job satisfaction impact the effectiveness and efficiency of organizations in such areas as motivation, performance, absenteeism, turnover, and organizational commitment. In view of these findings, this study recommends what managers can do to enhance employees’ job satisfaction in order to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of organizations.
