Abstract
We now know that women's health is directly linked to the development and prosperity of their communities. For communities to thrive, women must be given the same rights, access to health, and access to educational job opportunities as men. While the general shift to focus more attention and resources on empowering women is a welcome change, we must not forget about the attention that must also be invested in youth. Adolescents, particularly young girls, require significant support, and more resources must go towards supporting the health of young people.
To become healthy, productive adults, adolescents must become more informed about their own health and well-being. Young girls, in particular, are in need of additional resources that provide more information about reproductive health, including providing information about preventing gender-based violence, preventing unwanted pregnancies, contraception, and basic reproductive rights. Prof. Aja's ABC of women health is the perfect tool for engaging youth in such discussions. In a clear and accessible manner, the handbook provides pertinent information on important topics that will aid youth on ways to become more informed about their reproductive health. Tools of this nature are underutilized, and it is my hope that resources like Prof. Aja's Handbook will become more of a mainstay in the field of Adolescent Reproductive Health.
