Abstract

The field of Public Health is wide and dynamic, issues of health are constantly receiving attention and review globally because of the impact on human life. Lecturers in the Public and Allied Health Department, Babcock University have taken up the challenge of providing vital information on health to bridge existing gap in knowledge. They have taken a giant step to prepare a wikipedia of indispensable health material which is particularly essential for health practitioners, health assistants and the general public. The book gives historical perspective of health, dating back to biblical account of creation and God's original plan for man to prosper and be in health. It deals with man, his organs, tissues, immune system and various communicable diseases, in the environment as well as the remedies. Information on the consequences of indiscriminate refuse dumping, waste water management and the incursion of health hazards were also provided. Contemporary health issues such as drug abuse and addiction, prevalence of cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, STDs, HIV and cancer were also convered in this book. Family life education as a panacea to unwanted pregnancy and untimely death was not left out. Overall, this book is certainly a "must read" for everybody. I welcome the reader to a world of expositions on "health and living healthy".
