Abstract

It is generally recognized today that men control the destiny of a business. The success of any organisation, be it a bank or any other commercial or industrial concern, private or public corporation, depends to a great extent on the people in the organisation, their training and moral attitudes. There is no gainsaying the fact that the Nigerian banking industry is undergoing a period of transformation due to information communication technology (ICT) and various reforms among other things. This notwithstanding, most people in the country think of banks, only in impersonal terms, as they are mainly concerned or aware of the monetary transactions carried out in banks. However banks are much more than mere repositories of idle cash or sources of credit. Banks are operated by human beings and the quality of the people who work there determines their efficiency. The right quantity and quality of human capital can only be ensured through a carefully manned and well implemented educational system. This paper is an overview of analyses the banking education in Nigeria and contemporary problems associated with banking education in Nigeria. The author is of the view that there is an urgent need for paradigm shift to make it more relevant in this era of globalisation.
