Abstract
The obligation of the bank is always primarily to its customer and the age long the relationship between them (Bank and Customer) has always been on ‘secrecy’. This secrecy right from the inception of the banking industry was said to be ‘golden’ But the secrecy is no longer golden and if this be the case, we want to examine how and why it is no longer golden. This is our task in this paper and in doing so, we shall start by defining the principal terms, that is, ‘Bank’, ‘Customer’ and ‘Golden’, before looking at the nature of the relationship between banker and customer, the doctrine or rule of ‘secrecy’, up to the present situation when the secrecy is no longer golden.
