Abstract

The objective of this paper is to lay bare the broad trajectory of the nature and relevance of oil and gas as the major source of governmentâ€™s revenue in Nigeria and to articulate an institutional and policy framework that will maximize optimally the use of the resources from the oil and gas as a veritable instrument of sustainable development. The author exposes why the huge revenue from oil and gas has failed to sustain the Nigeria economy. The paper recommends, among others, a well articulated energy policy, good governance, stable regulatory framework and a social system the provides solutions for the tensions arising precedent to sustainable development in our country Nigeria.
