Abstract
The objective of this paper is to lay bare the broad trajectory of the nature and relevance of oil and gas as the major source of government’s revenue in Nigeria and to articulate an institutional and policy framework that will maximize optimally the use of the resources from the oil and gas as a veritable instrument of sustainable development. The author exposes why the huge revenue from oil and gas has failed to sustain the Nigeria economy. The paper recommends, among others, a well articulated energy policy, good governance, stable regulatory framework and a social system the provides solutions for the tensions arising precedent to sustainable development in our country Nigeria.
