Abstract

The quest for sustainable development to ensure overall improvement in individual well-being has been the pre-occupation of every nation. Essentially, many scholars are of the opinion that goals of economic and social development must be determined in terms of sustainability. The major objective of this paper, therefore, is to lay bare the broad trajectory of the nature and relevance of micro credit and to articulate an institutional and policy framework for accelerating the flow of micro credit to small-scale enterprises in order to empower them to serve as the new engines of sustainable economic growth and balanced development in Nigeria. The author also proffers strategies of maximizing the use of micro credit as a veritable instrument of sustainable development.
