There is no gainsaying that issues of poverty have consistently engaged the attention of academics and scholars whose pre-occupation is the dynamics of sustainable development for humanity. This paper attempts to investigate the causes and effect of the scourge of poverty on humanity. Our methodology relied essentially on secondary data and uses descriptive and analytical approach. The paper reveals that the negative effects of poverty are not insurmountable. The paper among other things concludes and recommends that to fight poverty effectively; there is a need for a stable macro-economics and political environment, good governance and serious fight against the monster of corruption.
