The paper observed that Corruption is a cankerworm that has eaten deeply into the fabrics of Nigeria economy. According to Transparency International annual corruption perception, Nigeria is rated by the World Bank as one of the most corrupt nation in the world. Corruption pervades the economy along with bad governance, Public agitation against illegitimacy of the political authority, ethnic struggle for the control of resources. The identified factors for this problem are: Lack of responsibility accounting that will provide information flow to the society; Acceptability of such money as deposits by banks, Weak anti-corruption agencies to solve the problem and political finance which result into integrating and controlling principal segments of the economy. The paper is empirical, descriptive and exploratory with four hypotheses tested. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used to perform the analysis of the field work. The findings are that no sector of the economy has respect for responsibility accounting, and the urge to expand the scope of their wealth have encouraged corruption. The paper concludes that there should be intensive public awareness of the damage done by corruption to the image of the society, Anti corruption agencies are to be autonomous of government controls and instant justice to be done by the judiciary on culprits to erase corruption.
