Abstract
Over the years knowledge and innovation have played an important role in the economic growth of most universities. Without a viable intellectual property policy IP rights and assets generated during research findings are left unprotected, optimal utilization of discoveries and inventions are left in abeyance and a sustainable educational system is not guaranteed. The need for University in developing countries to key into Intellectual Property (IP) for wealth creation and economic development has led to this study. This paper examines intellectual property as a tool for sustainable educational system; it highlight the importance of an intellectual property policy; it identifies university generated intellectual property with emphasis on the economic output of a viable invention and concludes with the benefits of intellectual property of an institution.
