Abstract
The work compares family institutions in Nigeria and Ghana from a Legal perspective. The family is regarded as a basic social unit constituted by at least two people, either joined by marriage, a parent living with one or more children, or brothers and/or sisters or other persons related by blood or marriage may be regarded as forming a family. the types of family permissible in both countries were interrogated and explored. it is recommended that Family Institution is to be understood as nothing more than the essential building blocks in the construction and elevation of any nation, in all ramifications.
