Abstract
Persons with mental disorders need legislative protection in their interaction with legal, social, economic and the general health care systems. The legal framework for mentally disabled people need to include access to treatment, the quality of treatment offered, confidentiality, consent to treatment and access to information.
Special clauses are inserted into this legislation to emphasize the need to protect people with mental disorders since they lack the capacity to make decisions themselves. the work explored the legal framework for mentally ill persons in Nigeria. it is recommended that the National Assembly should pass the Mental Health Bill that has been pending before the has been pending before them for over a decade.
