Abstract
The waves of human trafficking continue to permeate every nook and cranny of the Nigerian society in spite of government’s efforts to put an end to the menace. Human trafficking, like cyber scams, money laundering, advanced fee fraud and illicit trade in arms and narcotics has created a great anxiety as a modern-day social problem worldwide. The concept, causes and consequences of human trafficking as modern day slavery are examined in this research. This article will also endeavor to review the legal responses to combat human trafficking in Nigerian. The provisions of the Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition) Enforcement and Administration Act, 2015, and other laws combating human trafficking will be explored. It is recommended that nations must first address the trafficking problem as an internal human rights issue that affects its political, social and economic systems. Nigerian government should educate the citizens by creating more awareness to the evils of human trafficking and address the issue of massive unemployment and poverty in Nigeria.
