This paper examines competitive intelligence in librarianship. It looks at the various aspect of competitive intelligence as they could be applied to different sections of the library. Libraries are part of information highway that connects people to the world of information and they also conserve knowledge and preserve cultural heritage. Organisations use competitive intelligence to compare themselves to other organization's competitive standard in order to identify risks and opportunities in their markets and to carry out their plans against market responses which enable them to make informed decisions. Competitive intelligence ensures innovation in libraries and information services. The information that could be garnered and processed through competitive intelligence will make the libraries to provide top notch services to their clients.
