Abstract
Information and Communication Technology (ICT) has permeated practically every facet of learning and every aspect of human endeavour. There is no discipline in higher education, from the sciences to the arts, that does not require some knowledge and proficiency in the use of ICT.
This book, therefore, introduces basic and foundational elements of ICT. This includes introduction to Computers, Computer Systems, data representation and processing, general overview of computer hardware and software, computer networks, the Internet, and computer ethics and security. Attempt is also made to help readers acquire basic skills in the use of productivity software packages for word processing, spreadsheet, presentation and rudimentary database programming. Attention is also drawn to various and varied applications of computers in different areas of study and human endeavour.
