Abstract
Scholarship addressing classroom management and class sizes has raised a number of issues about classroom patterns and its dominating effects on students’ academic achievement. It has been observed that classroom organization and size play a dominant role in teaching and learning activities especially in social studies education. The paper posits that social studies attracts a large number of students at all levels of Nigerian educational system. research fining has revealed the detailed effect of overcrowded classroom on teachers output and students’ academic performance. This paper discussed different classroom management patterns and their influence on students’ academic achievement in social studies. It was recommended that all departments in various colleges of education and universities with the responsibilities of producing social studies teachers should ensure that pre-service teachers are acquainted with the techniques of classroom management and organization. This will promote the teaching if the subject in Nigerian tertiary institutions.
