Abstract

Distance education as a means of providing access to education particularly tertiary level education, has gained great prominence in the world. Nigeria has taken a giant step of recent to introduce open and distance learning education programme. This paper explores the major goals and objectives inherent in distance education and its potential to economic and personal growth. The successful implementation would provide opportunities to millions of individuals who would not have been in school and reduce brain drain through empowering tool to national development.
