Abstract
This study examined the perceptions of faculty and staff members on adherence to Babcock University (BU) core values in operations and business relationships of the University. The study was necessitated by the need to address perceived misconceptions about some decisions and actions of management of the University in some of its business and other relationships. Primary data were generated through a questionnaire designed for the purpose. The questionnaire contained research statements developed along the line of BU core values. Copies of the questionnaire were distributed to a total of 400 members of faculty and staff at the venue of the 2010 Annual Colloquium of the university. Filled out copies were collected from the respondents, and their responses extracted, collated, processed and analysed. However, 105 copies for each set of faculty and staff members involved in the survey were processed. Thus, analysis was based on 210 duly filled out copies of the questionnaire. Descriptive statistics and correlation methods of analysis were employed to analyse the responses. The results showed that majority of both faculty and staff members included in the survey was of the view that the institution sometimes adhered to its core values in its operations and business relationships. However, a weak negative correlation was established between the views of the two groups in the survey about adherence to the institution’s core values. This implied that the groups differed on the components of BU core values which they held the view that the institution sometimes adhered to. Therefore, the study concluded that there were times BU did not adhere to its core values. Consequently, the study recommended, among other things, that BU should improve on adherence to its core values.
