Abstract
The study reviews the performance efficiency of Conventional banks and Islamic banks in the United Kingdom between 2007 and 2011. A comparative study of the top four Islamic banks and five Conventional banks is undertaken based on selected financial ratios as performance indicators such as liquidity, profitability, risk and solvency, and efficiency. The collated secondary data derived from the companies’ financial statements are, transformed to percentage and ratios so that comparison can be, made between different companies and periods. The findings of the study revealed better performance of the selected Conventional banks during in terms of liquidity, profitability, risk and solvency, and efficiency indicators. The study recommends the broadening of the Islamic finance management skills. In addition, product innovation should strengthen the Shari’a differentiation and provide greater attraction and integration with the real economy.
