The quest for excellence is not an end in itself, but rather dependent on other variables which include administrative and corporate attitude to work. This is important because while administrative policies will require the cooperation of the workforce for adequate and effective implementation, the workforce will also require the desired atmosphere and motivation to perform at its best. The Evaluative Approach to Biblical Hermeneutics was utilized as an interpretative model to engage the Bible in thecourse of socio-political liberation. This study examines Nehemiah’s attitude to work, and leadership style that culminated in the completion of the walls of Jerusalem and some internal reforms. Using Nehemiah’s experience, the study established courageous and visionary leadership, grassroots mobilization, team spirit, skillful crises management and insistence on justice, integrity, and accountability, among others, as positive attitudes to work that engender excellence.
