Abstract
Widowhood practices in the ancient Jewish culture is akin to what we see today in most cultures of the world where widows are afflicted with pain and taken undue advantage of because of their status. Biblical narratives describe such cultural practices as being severe on women especially for a woman who has no male child at the demise of her husband. Such women, without a voice, are normally subjected to levirate marriages to one of the brothers of the diseased who may not be the choice of the widow. This paper is an exploration of widowhood practices in the Jewish culture and the implications for such practices in the Nigerian culture
