Abstract
The most important asset of any organization is her human resources and the quality of the human resource management is expected to be of high standard yet most organizations disregard this valuable asset thinking that employees can do it with university education knowledge. This paper took a theoretical approach on the assessment of on-the- job training as related to workers’ performance. Reviews were done on meaning, purpose, challenges, and the impact of on-the-job training. Secondary sources of data were adopted using journals, text books, seminar papers among others. Better options were presented by the various tools and types of on-the-job training as; Apprenticeship, Game Technique, Secondment, Acting Capacity , Job Rotation, Role- Playing, Lecture method, Conference method, Seminar, Talk, Discussion, and programmed Instruction. Recommendation among others is that Organisations should lay emphasis on staff training to enable them acquire requisite knowledge and skills needed on the job which enhances performance. The trainers should be equally exposed to further trainings that would enable them acquire more knowledge in addition to their professions.
