Abstract
International broadcasting is a subject of interest among governments and citizens of nations due to its strategic importance in international diplomacy. While it creates an avenue for information dissemination among nations and the broadening of citizens’ right to know, there is growing concern that its unbridled sway could undermine the security of nations. This paper examines the concept of international broadcasting in relation to national security and the rights of citizens to be informed. While it concedes to the media the social responsibility role of informing the public, it suggests ways of achieving a balance between national security and the public’s right to know.
