Abstract
This study investigated burnout among bank employees .The objective of the study was to investigate gender difference in the manifestation of burnout syndrome among First Bank and Access Bank employees, to determine whether employees with longer years of experience will experience job burnout syndrome more than the employees with fewer years of experience, to determine whether married bank employees will manifest higher level of job burnout syndrome than their single counterpart and to make necessary suggestions on Burnout management to both employees and employers of labour. A total of two hundred (200) employees, male and female of different ages participated in the study. Survey design was used for this study. A standardized questionnaire of Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI) was used to collect data.The data was analyzed using chi-square. The result confirmed three hypothesis that were tested.There were three main findings from this study. The first was that younger bank managers manifested higher level of work distress than their older counterparts. The second was that married bank workers experienced higher level of burnout syndrome than the single workers and the third was that female bank employees exhibit slightly higher burn out than their male employees. The implications of these findings were discussed in relation to previous studies and recommendations were made for further study and to stakeholders.
