Abstract
The environment in which an organization operates affect its decisions and its ability to achieve its objectives. Motivation is crucial to the survival of an organization especially those that operate in an economy that is said to be depressed where the level of poverty, cost of living and unemployment is high. This is possible only when worker’s efforts are energized, directed, and sustained toward attaining its goals. This paper is therefore aimed at identifying the effect of motivation on an organization operating in a depressed economy and highlighting the various motivational variables that can motivate workers under such conditions. The paper concludes that the satisfaction of workers’ needs will increase the overall productivity of the organization thereby guaranteeing the success of the organization
