Abstract
This chapter has attempted to shed light on factors in the Nigeria educational system that may affect its sustainability and the inclusion of critical thinking pedagogy. The chapter argued that critical thinking has a role to play in the sustainable educational system. While there are factors in our culture and environment that may militate against the promotion of critical thinking, different methodologies can be adopted by educators to facilitate the process. It concludes that teachers will need persistent, on-going exposure, encouragement, and supervision as they transform their educational system from an authoritarian one that controls through fear to one that promotes critical thinking through student-centered classrooms, active learning, and questioning.
