Abstract
Scholars have written volumes on the parables in the New Testament, portraying Jesus as a Master parable teller! Comparatively, not as much has been written about parables in the Old Testament apart from materials the book of Proverbs, which abound. This paper intends to concentrate on parables, outside of the book of Proverbs, examining their general significance from an African perspective. How communication is enhanced through the oral medium of parables in the Old Testament is hereby examined in African perspective. More attention would be given to the short story parables from the Old Testament and African perspectives. The world today has gone back to the future by embracing oral or auditory communication along with it focus on the visual. The parables are presented as adequate ways of meeting this new trend of engaging both the ears and eyes in learning.
