Abstract

Less information would have been known about ancient cultures but for the wealth of knowledge unearthed in their ancient archives. The volumes of archival documents found illuminate successive periods of their memoirs and enrich biblical and secular histories. For ages, Africans were labeled as a people without history simply because of the dearth of archival documents about their rich history. After a century of its existence, the Seventh-day Adventist in Nigeria still does not have archival documentation of its rich history and contributions to the nation. The Seventh-day Adventist church in Nigeria urgently needs a befitting historical archive, to help preserve, document, and make visibly accessible to the public, its history, artifacts, historical sites, and other forms of memorabilia. Such an archive, when properly set up, can greatly aid the teaching of the church’s history in its institutions. It can also help in bringing people of other faiths into the Seventh-day Adventist Church. Children and youths will be able to relate emotionally to their Church and what it stands for. This

paper makes a strong case for setting up an Adventist Heritage Archives in Nigeria and suggests some steps for achieving this laudable feat.
