Abstract

African proverbs from the African cultural mine is a panacea to all verbal tangles and a measure of African wisdom. They were foundational in passing on the legacy of respect and education for life. They were indispensable in teaching people how to excel in their professions, trades, warfare, marriages, politics, and indeed all spheres of life. This article reaches back to African cultural vault to recommend the massive return of African proverbs (and parables) to enhance sustainable education of African people within the continent and in diaspora. This article eulogizes these proverbs as fast-eroding internal support system for training our people which must be brought back in the face of the western cultural and educational hegemony. Their incorporation into educational curricula at all levels from primary to tertiary is endorsed.
