Abstract
The status of the widow in biblical times was precarious. Widows had limited inheritance rights in their husband’s family. Since these women were often supported by their dead husbands’ incomes, their death often resulted in want of life’s necessities, harsh treatment, exploitations, psychological, emotional, and sometimes health problems. What did Scriptures prescribe for their care? How have they been catered for in the ancient cultures parallel to the Bible times? How can the Nigerian Church be more intentional in supporting widows? These are the preoccupations of this paper.
