Abstract
Genesis 3:15 is a watershed text in the Bible which has been the focus of heated debates during centuries of Christian interpretations. This book examines the wide divergence of interpretations, including the literal, symbolic, naturalistic, aetiological, rabbinic midrash allegories, and mariological interpretations. The work goes beyond a historical reporting of conflicts between the righteous and wicked people to a historical-grammatical intra-textual and inter-textual close reading of the text in its final form. The narrowing movement from the collective plural seed, zera, to the single individual representative Seed is the prime Messianic indicator in the text. This makes this text to be the first gospel announcement indeed.
