Abstract
The issue of domestic violence, or spouse abuse, is no longer breaking news in Nigeria and indeed Sub-Saharan African countries. UNICEF, in their study stress the endemic perpetration of violence in Nigeria against women[1]. And this act is not limited to Nigeria alone but cuts across patriarchal cultures in Africa. Traditionally in Nigeria, as it is in many Sub-African countries, the beating of wives is widely endorsed as a form of inculcating discipline in women who are regarded as children who from time to time require occasional corrections.
