Abstract
Polygamy continues to be a raging issue among religious groups, even in the Christian religion. This work seeks to deal with historical and theological issues which relate to the polygamy debate in Africa, as they have arisen in European and American thought. The paper also critically looks at polygamy in the African family context. It brings out the viewpoints of different culture on the issue, using a descriptive survey perspective. The positive and the negative impact of polygamy were highlighted in the contest of African culture.
The Christian perspective was enumerated, starting from the time of origin of the world till the days of Christ. The counseling perspective was examined in the context of the researchers’ experiences.
