Abstract
Communication Principles Basics is a dream come true of our wish to simplify as much as possible the key concepts that students should know before going deeper. This book is a compilation of collated materials that are being used to teach the course “Communication Principles”. This has informed the arrangement of the each chapter with basic concepts and figures to aid more understanding.
Chapter one looks at the general concept of communication where every major concept in this book was highlighted. Communication system as a combination of communication elements was well established. Also, the chapter went further to classify communication signal into two types with their level of coverage.
Chapter two presents the basic concept of signal and signal analysis with discussion on various singularity functions. It also analyzed signals using some mathematical tools like Fourier series and Fourier transforms.
Chapter three looks at multiplexing concept with its major types and also discussed its usefulness in communication. The chapter considered amplitude modulation process, where proper illustrations were used to support its explanation. The concept of modulation index was also explained in this chapter.
Chapter Four looks at the concept of frequency and phase modulation including the relationship among the two. The chapter also explains the concept of frequency deviation along with discussion on various types of frequency modulation. The difference between Angle modulation process and Amplitude modulation process were also considered in this chapter. There was also need for the chapter to look at the difference between Frequency and Amplitude modulation.
Chapter Five explains the concept of Sampling theorem, it also differentiates between Nyquist rate and Nyquist interval. It also considered the effect of under-sampling known as Aliasing concept. Sampling techniques were also identified and explained.
Chapter Six which is the last in this book gives the concept of pulse modulation and the various forms of pulse modulation. It also looked at the attractive features of digital communication and the concept of Pulse Code Modulation.
In the light of the present chapter highlights, the authors will always endeavor to improve and add more chapters in subsequent editions.
